JESUS "CHUY" SALAS, age 84, of Forney, Texas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. He was born on June 1, 1941, in Concepción del Oro, Zacatecas, Mexico, and spent most of his adult life in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Jesus was a kind, generous, and compassionate man who did whatever it took to provide for his family. His strong work ethic and humble spirit left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
He had a deep Catholic faith and lived his live praying and extending blessings to everyone.
He found joy in gardening, singing, and most of all, spending time with his family. Jesus made it a point to call members of his family every day to check on them, always ending each conversation with a blessing. He also had a habit of breaking into song, bringing smiles wherever he went. In his later years, he enjoyed attending the Mesilla Community Center with his brother Ramiro for Senior lunches, and he would often entertain everyone there by singing his favorite songs. He will be remembered for his warmth, his humor, and his unwavering love for his family.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Heriberta Enriquez Salas; his parents, Felix Salas Sr. and Maria Esquivel Salas; brothers, Maximo and Mario Salas; and three sisters, Maria Ortega, Estella Pecor, and Emma Salas.
Jesus is survived by his five children: Maria Cardenas and husband Pat, Richard Salas and wife Patsy, Enrique Salas and wife Michelle, Jesus Salas and wife Julie, and Nora Salas. He is also survived by his siblings, Ramiro Salas (Petra), Pepe Salas (Lorraine), Mague Enriquez (Tomas), Sara Salas, and Carmen Bentley. Other survivors include 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren who will carry on his legacy, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 300 E. Boutz Road, with the Prayer Vigil at 10 AM. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30 AM. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho Avenue where he will be laid to rest in the family plot.
Serving as casket bearers are, Enrique, Elijah, Jesus, Brayden, Noah, and Richard Ezra Salas. The honorary bearer is Rudy Lopez.
