Obituary

Jason Marshall Shankle (50) of Las Cruces, NM, passed away on May 15, 2026 following a brief illness.

Jason was born in Fort Collins, CO to parents Rhonda Kimbro and Dave Shankle.  The family moved several times, but Jason had the strongest ties to Riverton, WY, and Rock Springs, WY, where he graduated with the 1994 class of Rock Springs High School.

After high school, Jason joined the Navy. He married Angela Arnett during boot camp weekend, and then proudly served for 9 years, separating as a Fire Controlman First Class (SW) after being stationed in Norfolk, VA (USS Normandy) and in Honolulu, HI.

After their oldest son was born, Jason and Angie moved back to Wyoming, where Jason earned a Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wyoming in Laramie.

For one of his summer internships, Jason was offered the opportunity to work at White Sands Missile Range. He fully enjoyed the work, and took a permanent position after graduation as an Electronics Engineer DOD Army Civilian.

Jason lived life in the moment and with no regrets. His mind was always busy and he enjoyed many hobbies, including woodworking, traveling, mentoring, gaming, hunting, music, camping, reading, computers, photography, electronics, coding, and working on cars. He prioritized making memories and maintaining strong bonds with his family, and with his many friends and shipmates spread across the country.

Jason is survived by his wife Angie and their three children, Andrew, Katherine, and Calvin of Las Cruces, NM; his parents, Dave Shankle (Paula) of Riverton, WY and Rhonda Kimbro (Dean) of Jackson Lake, CO; his stepmother Shawna Shankle of Riverton, WY; and siblings Marshall (Hayley), Cody (Lexi), and Tayshia.
