Jane Ann Bridges-Slagle, 82, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, passed away peacefully surrounded by love.

She was born in El Paso, Texas, in January 1943 and grew up in the Mesilla Valley—a landscape that shaped her soul and her art for a lifetime.

Jane was the daughter of Ollie and Willie Louise ("Jackie") Bridges and the sister of John and Linda. She attended the University of Arizona, where she met her husband, David Slagle. Together they built a rich life rooted in creativity, community, and a deep love for New Mexico. An artist through and through, Jane earned her Master of Fine Arts from New Mexico State University in 1998. Her vibrant mixed-media works reflected the desert's light, beauty, and resilience. She shared her gifts generously—through her art, her laughter, and her compassionate heart. Her work at The Emporium, supporting Mesilla Valley Hospice, was one of her greatest joys.

Jane shared an unbreakable bond with her daughter, Whitney Novello, and cherished her son-in-law, John, and grandchildren Sophia, Cole, and Wade, who filled her life with delight. Her sister Linda Reel, along with countless friends, will remember her warmth, humor, and unshakable spirit. Jane often ended conversations with, "See you in time and space." Her words now carry on the desert wind— echoing through the places and people she loved most.

A private memorial celebration will be held for close family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice in her honor.
