Our family hero, James G. Quillin, 53, of Las Cruces, New Mexico passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on May 21, 2024. James' battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life's challenges and his persistence to stay strong until the end.

James was born in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico to Harry Quillin and Marcella Garcia. James spent 18 years of his life dedicated to the United States Army, 25 years being a husband, and 25 years being a girl dad.

James was retired from the United States Army in 2013 after touring to Northern Iraq for Operation Desert Storm/Provide Comfort in 1991, to Florida in 1992 to help with Hurricane Andrews recovery, to Iraq again in 2004 for Operation Iraqi Freedom, to Camp Cropper, Baghdad for detention facility operations in 2007, and to Kosovo for a peacekeeping operation in 2011. James was also in the New Mexico National Guard where he was assigned to Operation Jumpstart in 2006 and 2008 and worked in NMNG Counter Drug Support Units in 2010. James was honored as Sargent James G. Quillin in 2007.

James' legacy is continued by two daughters, Brianna, 1998, and Caitlin, 2001, both born to his better half and endearing wife, Cindy, whom he married in 1998. In these early years, James raised his daughters alongside his wife before reenlisting in the military in 2003. James continued his passion and served, protected, and provided for his family the entirety of his life. Now we believe he continues to watch over and protect his loved ones as he always did in life.

James is survived by his wife, Cindy Quillin; his children Brianna and Caitlin Quillin; and many loving friends and extended family. He is preceded in death by his father Harry Quillin; and brothers in the U.S Army.

At the family request cremation has taken place. A memorial service for James will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 starting at 10am at Baca's Funeral Chapels, 300 East Boutz Road. Inurnment will be at Masonic Cemetery, 760 South Compress Road, following the service.
