Las Cruces

Obituary

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend, ISIDRO ZAMORA ROMERO, 90, of Las Cruces. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, June 13, 2024. "Chilo," as he was known, was born September 11, 1933, in San Isidro to Ricardo and Luisa Romero. One of 14 brothers and sisters, he was one of the last 2 living siblings. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy. After the Military, Chilo attended NMSU and was employed with Ligget & Myers Tabaco Co. After retirement, he became involved in the local Real Estate market with his wife Elvia. He was a member of the Catholic Church, The Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and the Mission of San Jose de Picacho. Chilo was an avid scratch golf player, a member of Picacho Hills Country Club and found any chance to get a round in. He loved to gamble on the game with his friends and would often compare himself to Gary Player and Lee Trevino saying he missed his calling to be a professional golfer, not discovering golf until he was 40 years old but said life began at 40.

In 1960, Chilo married Elvia Valles Romero. He is survived by his wife, Elvia, their son Philip Romero, wife Deborah Tellez-Romero of Sierra Vista AZ; grandchildren: Estevan Romero and Reina Romero of Las Cruces; great-grandchild: Amaya Romero.  Other survivors include his brother, Tony Romero, numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 12 brothers and sisters.

At his request cremation has taken place and the Prayer Vigil will begin at 6 PM Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 300 E. Boutz Road.  The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday, July 12, 2024, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1240 S. Espina Street. Inurnment of cremains will be held at the IHM Columbarium. Reception will be at the Holliday Inn Express North in Las Cruces, 2142 Telshor Ct., Las Cruces, NM
