IGNACIO "NACHITO" S. HERNANDEZ, born July 31, 1935, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. He is preceded in death by his parents, Margarito and Epimenia Saenz Hernandez, and the love of his life, Victoria "Vickie" Hernandez. Vickie and Nacho were together for 70 years and had two children. Willie Hernandez (Martha) and Leticia Lerma (Mike); grandchildren, Juliana and Fernie Hernandez, Iziah and Claudia (Brandon); his great grandchildren, Carlos Ezra and Houston Villegas, Katherine, Jewell and Zoey Hernandez. He also leaves behind a brother, Lorenzo "Speedy" Hernandez (Peggy) and his 1st cousin, Fina Nicolitz who became an important part of the household.
Nacho was employed by NM Department of Transportation at the Port of entry in Berino, NM for 30 years. He retired in his mid-50' and was able to enjoy his retirement with Vickie. They enjoyed fishing, trips to Laughlin, and Vegas, bowling and most importantly music and golfing with countless friends and family.
Nacho was an accomplished golfer throughout his life. In 1947 at the age of 12 he won his first tournament at a caddy's tournament held by the Anthony Country Club. He went on to win numerous Club Championships, Tournaments and held over 10 Holes-in-one. His love for music started young. In high school he and his friends formed the local band the "Happy Times" which gained popularity in the surrounding area. He was also an avid baseball player. He played on the Gadsden High School baseball team that won multiple States Championships in the 1950's. Nacho continued to play the game for La Union during the summer. Nacho and Vickie held many gatherings at the house throughout the years. Whether it was after golf days, birthdays, anniversaries or holidays, the guitar always managed to came out, that's when the party really started.
We are left with so many beautiful memories. He shared his love for music and sports with all of us, worked incredibly hard, and cared deeply for his family and friends. His warm, genuine smile will be missed.
