Herbert Osborn "Ozzie" Bagg, 89, died of natural causes on July 26, 2025, at Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces, NM.

Ozzie was born in NYC, NY on May 2, 1936, to Dorothy Osborn Bagg and Dr. Halsey Joseph Bagg, of Croton Lake, NY, where Ozzie was raised.

In 1969, he went to work at Rockefeller University, in NYC as the Laboratory Animal Research Center Manager. He was instrumental in designing and maintaining their state-of-the-art facility.

In 1970, he married Dorcas "Dee" Bagg, and 1972, they welcomed their only daughter, Nicole. They resided in Manhattan until 1974, when they moved to Valhalla, NY. In 1993, they retired to Las Cruces.

He was involved with The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), as well as The Doña Ana Archeological Society. Ozzie's photographic portfolio spans from NYC black and whites to colorful desert landscapes to archeological records. He began a year's long photo series of local musicians, which was a long-term installation in Mesilla. His work has been published and exhibited in several locations.

Ozzie was known for his kindness, humor, generous spirit and support of the arts. He had a special way of connecting with strangers, through his photography and love of music.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Dee, brother Halsey, sisters Margaret and Dorothy, and his mentors Dr. R. Leader and Dr. M. Friedman.

Ozzie is survived by his devoted daughter and teammate, Nicole, his canine buddy, Max, many friends, nieces, nephews and his great nephew, Jayson.

There will be a celebration of life on August 21, 2025, from 6-9pm at NM Vintage Wines, 2310 Avenida de Mesilla. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial donations be made to his "angels" at Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 Montana Ave, Las Cruces, NM 88005.
