Obituary

Rev. Hector Gomez Vega, age 79 of Las Cruces, NM went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 8th 2025 at Del Sol Medical Center in El Paso, TX.

Rev. Hector G Vega was born in El Paso, TX to Benito Vega and Leonora Gomez Vega. Hector graduated from Las Cruces High School, Class of 1965. After graduation he attended Latin American Bible Institute in El Paso, TX. He graduated in May of 1968. Hector continued his education and received his bachelor's degree in Christian Education.

He became an ordained minister in 1968 with the Assemblies of God Central District Council. Hector pastored his first church in Alamogordo from 1968-1969, second church in Surprise , Arizona 1969-1971, served as Dean of Men at Latin American Bible Institute (El Paso, TX) 1971-1976, pastored in Farmington, NM 1976-1986, and finally in Las Cruces, NM 1986-2025 where he made his family's home

Hector also served as Missions director for the Assemblies of God Central District, Presbyter of 5 churches in Las Cruces, NM, and was a public servant during his entire time of ministry serving the local community.

Rev. Hector G Vega is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Lou Vega; daughters, Elizabeth Jasso and Melissa Vega; son, Mario Vega; Six grandsons, two granddaughters, 8 great grandchildren. He is survived by many nephews, nieces, two brothers, Arturo and Eddie Vega, and his fur baby, Mia

He is preceded in death by son, Hector G Vega Jr, parents Benito & Leonor Vega, brothers Albert and Benny Vega, and sister Dolores Valenzuela.

Serving as casket bearers will be Mario Vega, Joseph Jasso, Darly Haley, Hector Torres , Kameron Vega-Sandoval, and Arturo Vega

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 10:00 am at Baca's funeral home, 300 E Boutz Rd, Las Cruces, NM 88005. Pastor John Mendez will be officiating. Interment will follow at Masonic Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with his son.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who have offered prayers, comfort and support during this time.
