Obituary

Hector Martin Barraza of Las Cruces passed away on Father's Day June 16, 2024 after a drowning incident.  Hector was born October 15, 1969 in El Paso, Texas to Crisoforo and Yolanda Barraza.  Hector worked in Construction for years until he suffered a heart attack in 2013.  He then tried a different career going back to school and finishing up cosmetology school where he worked in that field for sometime.  His hobbies included anything that had to do with building/fixing bikes.  It all started when he and his little brother Eddie Rey Barraza built a low rider bike to showcase at car shows.  His passion never ended even when his brother passed, he would still showcase Eddie's bike in his memory.  He built many more after that and even built some for his son and grandkids.  Hector enjoyed building things, having cookouts, hanging out at the river with his grandkids but one of his passions was always riding his Harley and spending time with his family and friends.  He was a humble man, a true friend, a loving grandfather, a tough father and uncle but he wore his heart on his sleeve and as tough as he was I hope everyone got to see that loving guy who would make you laugh with his expressions, his stories or his foul language or unexpected gestures.  We never spent a dull moment when Hector was around.  He will forever be missed.

Those left to mourn his passing include his children Matthew Barraza (Lorena) and Pamela Barraza. 2 sisters Cindy Villescas (Joseluis Villescas) and Criselda Herrera.  6 grandchildren, Alea, Apollo, Julian, Gemma, Jeremiah and Joseph.  His girlfriend Jackie Christian and her daughter Skyla, mother of his children Suzanne Verdugo (Gabriel), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and extended family he considered his own.   He was proceeded in death by his parents Crisoforo and Yolanda Barraza, his brother Eddie Rey Barraza as well as many uncles, aunts, maternal and Paternal grandparents.

Visitation for Hector Barraza will begin at 9:00 AM Tuesday July 9, 2024 at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 300 E Boutz Road with the prayer vigil at 10:00 AM.  Interment and Rite of Committal will conclude at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 5140 W. Picacho Avenue.  Serving as pall bearers include his son Matthew Barraza, his longtime friend Javier Cereceres, his brother in law Jose Luis Villescas, his nephews Aaron and Adrian Maldonado and Mason Rue. Serving as honorary pall bearers are his nephew Darian Herrera and niece Sofia Herrera.
