Obituary

In Loving Memory of Guadalupe Salgado Chavez
December 20, 1941 – October 17, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Guadalupe Salgado Chavez, who left us peacefully at home on October 17, 2025, at the age of 83, after a courageous battle with dementia. Surrounded by love and cared for by her devoted Life partner, Blas Porras, Lupe's journey on earth ended, but her legacy of love and strength lives on.

Born on December 20, 1941, Lupe was a woman of quiet resilience and deep compassion. She lived her life in service to others—nurturing not only her family, but anything she put her hands to: gardens full of dahlias and roses, chickens, vegetables, and a home filled with warmth. Her resourcefulness, unwavering faith, and boundless love were the cornerstones of her life.

Lupe's greatest joy was her family. She gave selflessly, always putting others first—whether it was offering a comforting word, sharing the last burrito, or finding a way to make ends meet with grace and ingenuity. Her strength came from her deep faith in God, and with that faith, she built a home full of love, laughter, and resilience. To her family, home was wherever Momma was.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Petra Mireles; her brothers Alfredo and Margarito Salgado; her first husband and father of her children, Teodosio Duran Chavez; her children Consolacion and Jose; her nephew Antonio Salgado; and her grandsons Arturo Esparza and Ruben Lozoya.

Lupe is survived and loved  by her Life partner, Blas Porras; her eight children—Ramona Chavez, Leticia Chavez-Paulette, Hector Chavez, Belen Chavez, Margaret Chavez, Charles Chavez, Lupita Chavez, and Lucy Chavez—and their spouses and partners; her sisters Andrea Salgado and Teresa Salgado; her brother Jesus Salgado; her stepchildren Philip Chavez, Debra Hall, and Sylvia Garcia and their families; along with 22 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Her faith, generosity, and quiet strength touched countless lives. Lupe was the heart of her family—a loving matriarch, a source of comfort, and a guiding light. Her spirit will continue to shine through those she loved and inspired.
