GILBERT DAEVIN BARELA was born in Las Cruces, NM on October 29, 2002, to Dawndarie Salas (Joshua) and Gilbert Barela (Heather). It is with great sadness that we announce his passing on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
He uplifted so many lives with his love and humor. He had the determination to have big things in life; he had huge dreams. He last worked as a foreman for Agave Construction and had jobs prior in the same field. He touched every person that crossed his path, even if it was for a few minutes or a few years. His hobbies included riding ATV's, dirt-bikes, motorcycles, jet skis and fast cars. Gilbert, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and of course being with his family and close friends.
He is survived by his siblings, Jeremiah, Brandon, Sariah, Anissa, Joshua, Garrett, and Gracyn; paternal grandparents, Gilbert, and Olivia Barela; maternal grandmother, Esther Pena, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Albert Benavidez; uncle, Gerald Barela, and good friend, Peter Jayden Gonzalez.
Serving as casket bearers are his brothers, Jeremiah Lopez, Brandon Lopez, Joshua Salas, Garrett Barela; cousin, Gaven Barela and childhood friend, Dillon Bakke. Honorary bearers are his sisters, Anissa Barela, Gracyn Barela, cousin, Alexis Benavidez, and good friends Trevor Mathis, and Ryan Arzate.
We will be praying, honoring, and remembering Gilbert on Tuesday November 12, 2024. A viewing and funeral service will be held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1240 S. Espina, Las Cruces starting at 10 AM, rosary at 10:30 AM followed by mass at 11AM, following mass will be his burial at Masonic Cemetery, 760 S. Compress Road, where he will be laid to rest.
