Obituary

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Genevieve M. Hernandez on March 22, 2025 surrounded by her family. Just shy of her 94th birthday. She was born March 27, 1931 in San Juan, NM to Dolores and Tomas Montoya.

Genevieve was the glue to our family who was loved and cherished by many. She was a homemaker and child care provider for many years. She loved her mexican music, loved to go to the casinos, watched her novelas and game shows. Loved life and was a strong courageous woman to the end. Mom only attended school up to 8th grade, later as an adult with grown children she received her GED. Which she was very proud of.

Those left to mourn her include daughter Pat Serna, sons Pete Hernandez Jr., David Hernandez (Sylvia) and Paul Hernandez (Kay), brothers Arturo Montoya and Henry Montoya, and sister Della Pena, ex-husband Pete Hernandez Sr. 7 grandkids, 6 great grandkids. The many daycare kids she took of that regarded her as a grandma, especially Jody and Marissa Pino. Many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Richard Montoya, sisters Elvira Pena, Emilia Placencio, Eloisa Armendariz, Mary Trujillo and Grace Flores.

We would like to invite all who loved and knew Genevieve to celebrate her life. A prayer Vigil will be held on Monday April 7, 2025 at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1240 S. Espina Street. Visitations will begin at 09:30 A.M. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 10:30 A.M. and the Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Interment and Rite of Committal will conclude at St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Serving as casket bearers include Jacob Serna, Christopher Serna, Edward Trujillo, Andrew Hernandez, Sammy Hernandez and Patrick Montoya.

Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff and loving caregivers at Hacienda at Grace Village, Sierra Hospice for their exceptional care during our mother's final years and days. Her love and laughter and feistiness will forever be missed but remain in our hearts.
