Frances Pauline "Polly" Sorensen

On August 29th, 2023 at the age of 95, Polly left our world with her family at her side. Polly was a bright spirit full of creativity, humor, joy, laughter, love, and wisdom. Polly was  born in Weldona, Colorado in 1928 to Hank and Thelma Musser. Polly grew up in Weldona,  where she graduated from a one room schoolhouse as valedictorian.  She went on to further her education, a rare thing in her time,  in Fort Morgan and then Denver.  Upon returning back  to Fort Morgan to work, she met her husband, George Sorensen,  whom she was married to for 62 years.  Polly was a devoted wife to George, moving several times in their lifetime working for the Bureau of Reclamation, making many friends along the way. They started their marriage in Denver, where their first son, Layne, was born. Then they moved to Loveland where their second son, Gary, was born.  They  made a long term move to Sanford, Texas for work on the Lake Meredith Dam. Polly enjoyed working at the Post Office and encouraging her sons in band and sports. They were there for eight years till the project was completed. In 1968,  they moved to Taos, NM where Polly began her love of painting and crocheting,  knitting and collecting art. After five years they moved to Springerville, Arizona for almost 18 years. This was where Polly was able to resume her love of quilting, a skill taught to her as a child by her mother and grandmother. Polly enjoyed quilting well into her 90s. Many friends, relatives and loved ones have been blessed with quilts over the years. Polly worked at Good Samaritan Hospital while living there and retired in 1990. Polly always said Springerville was her most favorite place to have lived. They made their final move to Las Cruces, NM in 1991  due to her husband's health issues.  Polly was then able to enjoy being grandma and great grandma, always eager to be a part of any activity the kids were involved in along with teaching them to love being creative too.  She was also an excellent cook and baker, having learned recipes from friends everywhere she lived. She loved her family and fed us well! After her husband passed, she became an avid jewelry collector, always saying her husband gave her permission to spend his money once he was gone.  Even as she was passing, she wore her jewelry.  She was a jewel in her own right.

Survivors include her son, Gary (Olga), and their daughters Amy Peterson (Jason), and great grandaughters, Mikayla and Taylor Juarros.  Also Erika Sorensen Crisp (Curtis) , and great-granddaughter Kora Crisp, along with a baby on the way,  all of Las Cruces, NM.  Also, Daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Sorensen, her sons Randy (April), great grandchildren Nathan and Katelyn all of Carrollton, Tx.  and son Greg(Stephanie)and great grandson Reagan of Livingston, Tx. Other survivors include her sibling's children and grandchildren, all in Colorado.

Polly was preceded in death by her parents, Hank and Thelma Musser,  her beloved son, Layne Sorensen, husband George Sorensen, brother Jim Musser and sister Betty Marshall.

Polly wanted us to acknowledge her "Coffee Klotch Ladies" whom she has been friends with for several years and who helped keep her enjoying life. Thank you for your friendship, love and support.

We would also like to thank the Staff at The Aristocrat Assisted Living Facility for four years of loving and taking care of Polly.  Also we are grateful for the compassionate care given by Sierra Hospice in her last few weeks.

At her request, cremation has taken place, a Celebration of Life will be held on Friday September 29, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at Baca's Funeral Chapel 300 E. Boutz Road. The family request that you wear something purple or hot pink in honor of Polly.
