Obituary

On Thursday, November 2, 2023, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend, FERMINA CARABAJAL PAZ, lifelong resident of Tortugas entered eternal rest at La Posada-Mesilla Valley Hospice surrounded by her loved ones, at the age of 94.  She was born January 10, 1929, to Angelita Pedroza and Felipe Carabajal. Fermina was a very talented lady when it came to pottery, paintings, woodwork, and glass. She would display her beautiful crafts at the Branigan Library for many years and was a devout member of The Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Survivors include her son, Rafael Paz, and wife Kathy of Las Cruces; daughter, Sylvia Paz-Lozano to Tortugas; brother, Jose Maria Carabajal of San Jose, CA; and 3 sisters, Carolina Paz, and Margie Lozos all of Tortugas and Ernestina Carabajal of Las Cruces. Other survivors include 4 grandchildren, Jaime, Francisco and wife Martha, Alex, Phillip and wife Roberta: great grandchildren, Mason, Isabel, Nathaniel, Emery, Luna Estrella and Michael Thomas and a baby girl on the way as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: her loving husband, Francisco "Kiko" Paz on December 25, 2011; 2 brothers, Felipe, and Guadalupe Carabajal; 3 sisters, Rosa Apodaca, Alvina Carabajal and Carmen Orta; and a grandson, Javier Paz Lozano.

Visitation for Mrs. Paz will begin at 6 PM, Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe, 3600 Parroquia Street in Tortugas, where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 7 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM, Friday, November 10, 2023, in the same parish, with the Reverend Valentine Jankowski Celebrant. At her request cremation will follow and Inurnment of cremains will take place at a later date.

Serving as casket bearers will be Phillip Paz, Jaime Paz, Alex Lozano, Francisco Lozano, Romaldo "MR" Paz, Jr; and Xavier "Harvey" Paz.
