It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Felix Castro Torres on September 3, 2023. He was 89 years old. He was born on July 28, 1934 in la Hacienda de Guadalupe, Distrito de Camargo, Estado de Chihuahua de la Republica Mexicana, to Benjamin Castro and Eduardo Torres.
One of Felix's first jobs was in the town of Engle NM as a railway section hand or as they were more commonly known as "traqueros", repairing and maintaining railroad tracks. After a few years he then moved on as a farmworker in the Rincon Valley. Shortly thereafter he married Lupita and the two made their way to the Mesilla Valley to raise their family and then living the last 30 years in Las Cruces NM. He loved fishing and hunting, always taking enough food and drinks for everyone who joined. He loved making menudo and empanadas for holidays and fiestas, sharing with family and friends. He was known as the life of the party with his quick wit and contagious laugh. He will be remembered.
Those left to mourn him include his son Armando Torres (Sandra), two daughters Yolanda Torres and Sylvia Torres. He also leaves two brothers Juan Torres and Rafael Torres, two sisters Ofelia Hernandez and Adela Amador and seven grandchildren Ashlee Torres Ramirez (Jerry), Jazmin Torres, Marco Torres, Diego Torres, Michael Torres, Eddie Sanchez, Francisco Sanchez and three great grand children Lilly Perea, Ben Perea and Bella Luz Aparicio.
He was preceded in death by parents Benjamin and Eduardo, his beloved wife Lupita Lucero Torres, sister Carmen Garcia and brother Manuel Torres.
A prayer vigil will be held on Sunday September 17, 2023 at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 300 E Boutz Road. Visitations will begin at 03:00 P.M. and the Rosary will begin at 04:00 P.M. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Monday September 18, 2023 at St Genevieve's Catholic Church, 100 S Espina Street. Interment will conclude at St Josephs Cemetery.
