ESTHER REYES EVARO, age 90, of Las Cruces, entered eternal life on Monday, October 13, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born April 14, 1935, in Chamberino, New Mexico, to Genoveva Ortiz and Jose Reyes, Esther lived a life rooted in faith, family, and community.
A devoted homemaker, Esther found joy in caring for her loved ones and was a faithful member of the Roman Catholic Church. Her spiritual devotion extended to her active participation in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 4384, where she served with pride and compassion. Known for her vibrant spirit and love of casinos, Esther brought warmth and laughter wherever she went.
She is survived by her daughters, Yvonne Evaro and Janet Evaro, both of Las Cruces; her brother, Jose Reyes of Albuquerque; her sister, Lorenza Apodaca of Las Cruces; and her daughter-in-law, Terry Evaro of Las Cruces. Esther's legacy continues through her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.
Esther was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Juan G. Evaro (1998); her parents; daughters Devonna Romero and Brianna Flores; sons Johnny and Richard Evaro; brothers Cleto and Manuel Reyes; and sisters Julia Aguirre, Teresa Rodriguez, and Josie Salaiz.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 6 PM Monday, October 27, 2025, at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 300 E. Boutz Road. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Tuesday, October 28, at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1240 S. Espina Street, with Reverend Joe McGlocklin, Celebrant. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at San Jose Cemetery in La Mesa, New Mexico, where Esther will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in the family plot.
Serving as casket bearers are John Rank, Albert Salaiz Jr., J.J. Apodaca, Jesse Apodaca, Julian Aguirre, T.J. Evaro, and Josh Salaiz.
Esther's life was a testament to love, resilience, and devotion. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
