Esperanza (Lanchi) Lopez Madrid, age 79, of Las Cruces, NM, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2024, at Mesilla Valley Hospice. Born on December 22, 1944, in Mesilla, NM, she was the cherished daughter of Benjamin Diaz Lopez and Josefa Holguin Lopez.
Esperanza, a beloved Mesillera, had a laugh that could light up a room and a spirit that made every gathering unforgettable. She was always ready for a good time; she embraced life's joys with enthusiasm—whether it was enjoying a sweet treat or delighting in a thoughtful gift. Her vibrant personality and love for fun will always be remembered fondly.
She is survived by her sons Richard Madrid (Stacey) and Joseph Benjamin Madrid (Cindy), her grandsons Justin Madrid and Rich Jaques-Garcia (Maranda), and her great-grandchild Ace. Esperanza is also survived by her brothers, Hector Lopez (Minnie) of San Ysidro, Henry Lopez (Margaret) of Mesilla, she is also survived by her sisters Esther Lona (Cesario) of Amarillo, TX, Eloisa Guerrero (Alfredo), both of Las Cruces, and Emma Castaneda (Jesus) of San Pablo and her sister-in-law Sidney Telles Lopez of Mesilla.
Esperanza was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard Madrid, and her brother Eddie Lopez. She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will remember her with great fondness.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all who offered their support and love during this time. Esperanza's laughter, love, and passion for life will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
A memorial service will be held at Baca's Funeral Home on August 30, 2024. Visitation starts at 2:00 pm and the prayer service will start at 3:00 pm.
