Ernest Xavier Barela of Dona Ana, N.M. passed away on August 14, 2023.

Ernest was born January 1, 1950, to Ernest Barncastle Barela and Teresa Carreon Barela of Dona Ana. He graduated from Mayfield High School and then joined the United States Navy. He served in the Navy for six years. After his service in the Navy, he went to work for the City of Las Cruces as a Land Surveyor.

Ernest is survived by his son, Ernest Bryan Barela; three grandchildren, Ebryana Aaliyah, Delilah Dominique, and Bryan Adam; two sisters, Delores Stottlemyre and Catherine Tyson (Jim); two brothers, Arthur Barela (Missie), and Steven Barela.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Teresa Barela.

A visitation will be held from 5:30pm to 7pm, Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 300 East Boutz Road. At Ernest's request cremation will follow and inurnment of cremains will be at a later date.
