EMILIA "MILA" C. GOMEZ, age 96, born January 29, 1929, in Placitas, NM went home to our Lord Christ on Friday, July 18, 2025, surrounded by family. She passed gracefully with great dignity and a halo waiting for her. Mila was a skilled seamstress, devoted wife and wonderful mother of nine children.
The photos and memories of her are cherished treasures to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Greeting her at the gates of the Kingdom of Heaven are her husband, Domingo K. Gomez; sons, Domingo Jr., and fallen NM State Trooper Richard "Ricky" Gomez.
Standing right behind them are her parents, Hugo and Petra Carreras, brothers and sisters, Lucy Chavarria, Nellie Atencio, Claudina Tarin, Richard Carreras and Cecilia Sanchez.
There was no wound she couldn't heal. There was no food or bread that tasted better. There was no better person to go to when things went wrong; She just knew how. Mila spent her life in servitude to our Lord and to her family. Her and Domingo's little blue house in Garfield grew like wildfire into a vast family of love and we are very proud of what she instilled in us. If there was any truth that we all have known since infancy is that if anybody was going to heaven, it was Mila. She's there now as our new Angel.
Please join her children, Johnny and wife Patsy, Hugo and wife Leticia, Lucy Anne, Domingo III "Tito" and wife Lourdes, Julia and husband Michael, Tony and wife Elaine, Delmira and husband Horacio, the numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren to celebrate her life.
Visitation for Mrs. Gomez will begin at 6 PM Monday, July 28, 2025, at Bacas Funeral Chapel 300 E. Boutz Road with the Holy Rosary at 7 PM. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 AM Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in the same chapel. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, 100 N. Espina Street where she will be laid to rest in the family plot.
Serving as casket bearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons.
We may commit her earthly body to the ground but now we can call on her to truly sit beside us when we pray, cry and rejoice in her and His name.
