It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and dear friend, ELVIRA MONJE RAMOS, age 74, of San Miguel on Friday, May 24, 2024, at La Posada-Mesilla Valley Hospice surrounded by her loved ones. She was born January 23, 1950, in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, to Ambrosia Murrillo and Cruz Monje. Elvira will fondly be remembered for her time working at San Miguel/North Valley Elementary cafeteria where she made lifelong relationships. Additionally, Elvira will be remembered in her community as the "Avon Lady." Elvira enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing Bingo/Loteria and going out to eat. Elvira had a great passion for keeping her home and yard spotless; she loved to clean while dancing and singing along to classic Rock & Roll and her favorite Marco Antonio Solis/Los Bukis. She was an active member of the Catholic Church and regularly attended mass in San Miguel.
Survivors include two sons, Rudy Ramos of San Miguel, and Roman Ramos (Angelica) of Las Cruces; a daughter, Lorraine Garcia and a granddaughter raised as a daughter, Brittney Ramos both of Las Cruces; brother, Larry Monje (Janet) of Fairacres and three sisters, Noemi Medrano of Old Picacho, Mona Baldomino (Louis) of Hacienda Heights, CA., and Patricia Ramirez (Hector) of Mesilla. Other survivors include 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Elvira was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roman "Monchi" Ramos Jr; and brother, Cruz Monje Jr.
Visitation for Elvira will begin at 10 AM Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the San Miguel Catholic Church, 19217 S. Highway 28 in San Miguel with the Prayer Vigil at 10:30 AM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately thereafter with the Reverend George Szal, Celebrant.
At her request cremation will take place and Inurnment of cremains will be held at a later date at the San Miguel Cemetery where she will be placed with her husband, Monchi.
Serving as casket bearers will be Isaiah, Ezra and Lucas Ramos, Diego Pacheco, Jordyn, Jolyssa, and Cloee Garcia.
