Elizabeth Uribe Gonzalez, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, at her home in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was 84 years old.
Elizabeth was born on June 28, 1941, in Mexico City to Rafeal Uribe and Ophelia Telles. Elizabeth lived a life filled with love, service, and adventure. A spunky and independent woman, Elizabeth embraced life with energy and joy. She loved cooking, baking, sewing, and crocheting, and shared her gifts generously with her family and community. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel often, and she delighted in new experiences. She was also deeply involved in her faith, teaching catechism at her church and participating in singing and dance classes that brought her much joy. Elizabeth built a meaningful career as a home economics teacher, where she taught countless students the lifelong skills of cooking, sewing, and household management for more than a decade. Later, she continued her legacy of care by serving as an Ombudsman for the State of New Mexico, where she advocated for residents in nursing home facilities with compassion and dedication.
She is survived by her children, Juan, Martin, and Clarissa; her 15 grandchildren, Dion, Fati, Manuel, Justin, Sergio, Byron, Armando, Lauren, Claren, Erika, Crystal, Isaac, Joseph, Chance, and Olivia; and many great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish her memory.
She is preceded in death by her parents Rafeal Uribe and Ophelia Telles; her brothers, Rafeal Jr., Efrain, Rueben, David, and Osias; her sister, Jessie; her daughter, Cecilia, and her husband, Jesus Sosa.
A visitation for Elizabeth will held on Friday, September 19, 2025, starting at 9am at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 324 Lincoln Street, Anthony, NM. A prayer vigil will start at 10am with a funeral mass to follow. She will be laid to rest beside her parents in Anthony, TX following the service. A reception lunch will be held at 12:30 p.m. at La Casa Blanca, where family and friends are invited to share memories and honor her life.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered love, prayers, and support during this time. They invite everyone who knew Elizabeth to celebrate her life with joy and fond remembrance.
