ELIZABETH CASTAÑEDA CHÁVEZ entered eternal life on Monday December 29, 2025. She was born in Fabens, Texas, but grew up at Stahmann Farms and spent most of her life in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was a graduate of New Mexico State University at DABCC and was a homemaker.
Among her many contributions, Elizabeth assisted her ex-husband in establishing a trucking company and was one of the first mentors with the ¡Sí Se Puede! program at DABCC, which helps displaced homemakers return to school and reenter the workforce. In her younger years, while her husband worked outside the home, she worked as a Tupperware saleswoman—a role she excelled in and truly enjoyed—while raising four children: John, Rachael, Elizabeth, and Ramona Chávez.
She is also survived by two grandchildren, Oliver Miller and Canaan McWillie; a beloved family pet, Penny; and her siblings, Jaime Castañeda and Maria Cecilia Coy. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her mother, Ramona Lopez Castañeda; father, Javier Simental Castañeda; and four siblings: Juan, Magdalena (Nena), Christina Emilia, and Javier (Nuno) Castañeda.
Elizabeth will be remembered for her dark, quirky sense of humor and quiet strength. May she rest in peace.
