As our tears may run, heaven rejoices as it embraces the beautiful soul of our loving Eduvijes Reyes Velthuysen. Gracing our presence with her birth on September 3rd, 1939, she was called to God on the 23rd of this December, 2023 at the age of 84. While many had a difficult time pronouncing her name, those who knew her best were lucky enough to call her Vicki, Mom, or Grandma. She also had fun with her nicknames like Vicky Val and Granny Goose. Vicki led a life of simple pleasures; one of which involved feeding her birdies and watching them as they dropped by in the mornings to visit and sing. The only visits she enjoyed more were those paid to her by her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Among family and friends, many wonderful meals and lively conversations have been shared at her kitchen table, while others took place in her living room where Family Feud or Cubbies baseball aired in the background. It is in her home where we can still envision loved children playing, feel the excitement of opening Christmas gifts surrounded by family, and hear her voice carry the song of Las Mañanitas during birthday celebrations. She was a wonderful woman with a heart of gold and full of love. Let us commemorate her beautiful spirit by sharing that love with others. In the meantime, be watchful. She may just be the birdy who drops by and sings you a tune to brighten your day.
Eduvijes is preceded in death by her husband Fredrick Velthysen and her daughter Elizabeth Paz, her parents Refugio and Frances Reyes and numerous relatives.
She is survived by her daughter Yolanda Rede (David McClure) and her grandchildren April Pagan (Anthony Pagan), Jeremy Rede, Nathan Paz, Jacquelyn Paz and her great grandchildren starting with her favorite Athena Pagan, Anthony (tony) Pagan, and James Rede.
