David M. Quintana Jr. "Mickey", 54, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, passed away on March 29, 2026.
David was born in Safford AZ. and lived in Las Cruces NM, where he built a life centered around family, hard work, and his passion for entrepreneurship. From a young age, he had a drive to create and succeed, starting his first venture as the owner of Jams Mobile DJ. He later followed his passion for food, launching several food businesses including Uncle Sonny's Treats, Sweet Treats, and ultimately Papa's Smoked BBQ, which became his pride and joy and saw great success in recent years.
Alongside his entrepreneurial journey, David dedicated over 28 years of service to Walmart, where he built a lasting career and formed many meaningful relationships.
David had a deep love for the outdoors and was an avid hunter, with turkey hunting holding a special place in his heart. He looked forward to his hunting trips each year, often going out at least twice annually.
He is survived by his parents, David M. Quintana Sr. and Barbara A. Quintana of Las Cruces, NM; his longtime partner, Connie Moreno of Phoenix, AZ; his brothers, Daniel Quintana of Albuquerque, NM, and Carlos Quintana of Las Cruces, NM; and his children: Derreck Rivas (Jessica) of Safford, AZ; Anthony Quintana of Las Cruces, NM; Allyssa Hernandez (Stephen Hernandez) of Safford, AZ; Jesse Baca of Las Cruces, NM; Michaella Panciera of Las Cruces, NM; Michael Quintana (Stephanie) of Las Cruces, NM; and Jade Quintana of Las Cruces, NM. He is also survived by several grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jose A. Quintana Jr. and Encarnacion "Kene" Quintana; his maternal grandparents, Carlos Velasquez Sr., Mary Montoya, and Lawrence Montoya; his uncles, Carlos "Sonny" Velasquez Jr., Robert Velasquez, and Jose "Sonny" A. Quintana; and his cousin, Chris "Al" Velasquez.
David will be remembered for his entrepreneurial spirit, his love for his family, and the passion he brought to everything he did. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, resilience, and dedication that will not be forgotten.
Funeral services will be held on May 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Bacas Funeral Chapels, 300 East Boutz Rd., Las Cruces, NM. A reception will follow immediately after at 1092 Kennedy Rd., Las Cruces, NM.
