David T. Benavidez, age 83, passed away on July 31, 2026, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born on August 12, 1941, in Hatch, New Mexico, a community that remained close to his heart throughout his life.

David proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. His military service was among his proudest accomplishments, and he carried the values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment with him throughout his life. A dedicated advocate for veterans, David was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3347, the American Legion and served as New Mexico State Commander of the VFW from 1980 to 1981.

David's work ethic was shaped early while helping on the family ranch, farm, and dairy in Hatch, New Mexico. Throughout his career, he worked as a welder in the smelter for Kennicott, a carpenter, and later traveled across the country working for Marriott and Sodexo. He ultimately retired as an Account Manager for Sodexo in Colorado Springs, where he spent the final twenty years of his life.

He is survived by his son, Danny Benavidez and wife Rachel of Silver City, New Mexico; his daughter-in-law, Tamie Benavidez of Silver City, New Mexico and his sisters, Margie and Cindy Benavidez of Tucson, Arizona.

David was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Myrta "Alice" Guerra; his grandparents Lorenzo and Juanita Benavidez, who raised him; his mother, Maria Torres Benavidez, who passed away shortly after his birth, his parents Bernardo and Ester Benavidez; his brothers, Larry Benavidez and Michael Benavidez and his son David "Larry" Benavidez.

David also leaves behind a loving legacy through his grandchildren: James Benavidez (Stephanie), Ashley and Gabriel Benavidez, Jade Benavidez (Felicia), Jazzy Benavidez Aragon (Eric) and Jalyssa Benavidez (Chris).

He is further survived by his great-grandchildren: Gabriel Matthew, Adriana, Isaiah, AJ, Destiny, Elias, Yadira, Daniel, and Raider, as well as his great-great-granddaughter Laila.

David will be remembered for his unwavering patriotism and steadfast support of veterans. He was proud to be a Marine and proud of the family and friendships he built throughout his life. His legacy of hard work, honor, courage and commitment will live on in all who knew and loved him.

Lord, we thank You for the life of this Marine.

He answered the call, served with honor, and carried the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor with pride.

Now his watch is ended and his duty complete. Receive him into Your eternal peace.
