Obituary

Our beloved Daniel (Danny) J. Chaffin went home to be with our Lord on 4/24/24 after a long battle against Parkinson's disease.

Danny was born 9/6/64 to Dr. Richard Chaffin and Vivian (Lay) Chaffin in Silver City, NM.  Upon his father's position within the Methodist church, he and the family moved several times within the states of TX and NM.  Danny attended and graduated from Robertson HS in Las Vegas, NM in 1983 where he excelled in every sport he played.  He moved to Las Cruces, NM in 1983 and worked as an auto mechanic for many years and a machinist before attending NMSU, earning his degree in electro-mechanical drafting, working in that capacity until retirement.  Danny's work eventually took him to Utah; he and Shari moved to Cedar City, UT in 2005 where they lived for 13 years before returning to their beloved home in Las Cruces.

Danny lived a full and fruitful life. He had an abundance of friends who will miss him dearly. He was active in city softball (team Cheers); enjoyed camping, fishing, mountain biking, and being outdoors. Much to Shari's chagrin, he was a life-long devoted Dallas Cowboy fan; and he took great pride in his yard.  As an outgoing, personable soul, he will be best remembered for his humor, quick wit, authenticity and willingness to help others when needed.

He is survived by his mother, older brother David (nephew Sean, niece Kristin Hamilton), his loving wife and life partner Sharon (Shari), step-son Travis Colvin (Sarah), 3 grandchildren (Drea, Toby, and Tatia) and 2 great grandchildren (Zella and Wesson).   He is joined in Heaven by his father, Richard, and numerous aunts and uncles.

He will be buried at Hillcrest Cemetery in Las Cruces, NM.  Plans for a memorial service are pending.

Service arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapel of Las Cruces and Sunset Crematory, 527-2222. Your exclusive provider for "Veterans and Family Memorial Care." For online condolences logon to www.bacasfuneralchapelslascruces.com
