Obituary

Christina Frietze Miranda, 95, of Las Cruces, NM peacefully passed into the Lord's arms at her residence on Wednesday morning, July 19, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on May 17, 1928 in the Village of Mesilla to Manuel and Adelina Frietze.

Christina was a devout Catholic (that never attended church without her mantilla). She received the sacraments of baptism and confirmation at the Basilica of San Albino where she later married Ysidro (Jr.) Miranda on January 27, 1952. Christina was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and respected teacher's aide who attained her Bachelor of Social Work from New Mexico State University in 1976. She worked for Las Cruces Public Schools as the Migrant Program Liaison, at Mesilla Valley Hospital as a technician, at New Mexico State University as the Expanded Nutrition Program Coordinator, and at Doña Ana Branch Community College as an ESL instructor. Christina's house was known as one frequented by family and friends to enjoy a delicious meal often prepared with few and simple ingredients.

Those left to mourn her passing include her four sons Orlando Miranda (wife Carolyn), Jamie Miranda, Harold Miranda, Gary Miranda; her only daughter Yvonne Renteria (husband Fred); her brother Jesús Frietze (wife Toni), eight grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren.

Christina was preceded in death by her husband, Ysidro, her parents, Manuel and Adelina, her sisters, Erminda Martinez and Ella Campolla, and brothers, José and Ruben Frietze.

A public visitation for Ms. Miranda will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 300 E. Boutz. Rd., with a Rosary Service to immediately follow. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Basilica of San Albino, 2280 Calle Principal, Mesilla, where she will be laid to rest at the Church's cemetery.

Serving as casket bearers will be Christina's grandchildren: Ivan Miranda, Nathan Miranda, Ian Miranda, Brandon Miranda, Hank Futch, and Aaron Paul Renteria.
