Obituary

It is with heavy hearts, that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, Cecilia G. Perea. She joined our Lord on May 15th, 2025 at the age of seventy-five (75).

Cecilia was born on January 23, 1950 in Anthony, Texas.  She grew up in La Mesa, New Mexico and graduated from Gadsden High School.  She enjoyed living in Salt Lake City and San Francisco before returning to Las Cruces where she was employed at multiple Las Cruces Banks for many years. She later devoted her life to being a caregiver.  Cecilia cared for a few of her aunts and many local residents in the Las Cruces and La Mesa area. As a caregiver, Cecilia was totally dedicated to those she provided services to and was always eager and available to help others.

Cecilia was always available to drive her friends, wherever they needed to go. She loved and enjoyed caring for her nieces and nephews in their early years. Cecilia was well known for her loving care, generosity, and resilience.  Her greatest devotion was to our Lord. Her life centered on learning, praising and singing to God. She enjoyed having Bible reading sessions with friends. She loved to travel and would stop at little churches to pray along the way. She is fondly remembered by those she taught Bible studies to; as a wonderful teacher that taught them how much they were loved by God.  Her favorite phrase was "Praise the Lord".

Cecilia was our cherished daughter, sister, aunt and friend.  She was preceded in death by her father, Emilio B. Perea in 1986 and her mother Anita G. Perea in 2001.  Survivors include three brothers, Eduardo Perea and wife Beatriz of El Paso, Texas, Emilio Perea, Jr and companion Ysela Madrid of La Mesa, Ruben Perea of La Mesa, and sister Rosie Lopez and husband Ramon (Smokey) Lopez of El Paso, Texas.

She is survived by seven nephews, Orlando, Jimmy Ray, Jacob Perea of Las Cruces, Marco, Javier, Omar Perea, Fred Lopez of El Paso Texas and two nieces, Andrea Lopez of Washington DC and Odesa "Desi" Barraza of Chandler, Arizona. Though Cecilia is no longer physically with us, her love will continue to live in our hearts of all of us who were blessed to have had her in our lives.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday June 9, 2025 at Bacas Funeral Chapel, 300 E. Boutz Road. Inurnment and Rite of Committal will conclude at San Jose Cemetery in La Mesa.
