Obituary

Carlos "Charlie" E. Apodaca, 89, of Las Cruces, NM, peacefully passed away May 2, 2026.

Charlie was born in Las Cruces, NM, to Juan G. and Emilia D. Apodaca. He was an avid hunter, a devout Catholic, and proudly served in the United States Air Force. He was a volunteer fireman for the Las Cruces Fire Department. He was also a proud member of the Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo Indian Tribe. He worked on the Apollo and Space Shuttle programs as a Machinist and was a member of the International Association of Machinists, along with other unions including the AFL-CIO. He will be remembered by many simply as "Coach" because of his years coaching baseball and softball alongside his brothers. Charlie held a very special love for his grandchildren, Xavier and Siena, who brought him tremendous joy and pride. His love for them was gentle, deep, and unmistakable, and they held a treasured place in his heart. Charlie was a caring soul who was always willing to help others and will be remembered for his infectious smile.

Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Martha V. Apodaca; his sons, Karl Apodaca and Bobby Apodaca (Iliana); his much loved grandchildren, Xavier and Siena; his brothers, Victor "Pixie" Apodaca (Cory) and Raymond Apodaca; and Lorenza "Larrie" Apodaca, wife of deceased brother Juan D.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Juan D. Apodaca; and his sisters, Carmen Gonzales and Rose Mary "Rosie" Trevino.
