Long known for her love of sewing and crafting and her devotion to her faith, husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Alice Monnin passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2025.

A longtime resident of New Mexico, Alice loved exploring every corner of the state with her children.  Later in life, she continued her adventures, traveling across the United States and even to Europe. Her favorite way to travel was by train.

She generously devoted her time to volunteering at her children's schools, local hospital, and her church. Prior to becoming a full-time mother, she worked as a secretary for 6 years for a large firm.

Alice had a quirky sense of humor and loved sharing silly jokes to make her grandchildren and great-grandchildren laugh. She enjoyed playing games and had a particular talent for Rummy, often timing her plays perfectly to win. In her later years, she spent many happy hours working on jigsaw puzzles with her youngest grandson.

Baking was another of Alice's great passions. Christmas cookies were her specialty, and one year she proudly announced she had baked 72 dozen in a variety of flavors. Her homemade pies set a high standard, and her interest in cake decorating inspired her youngest daughter to carry on the craft in her own way.

Alice began sewing at a young age, first making clothes for herself and later creating garments for children, flags for the band, and items for the home. She loved quilting, knitting, and needlework, and one of her greatest joys was being part of her parish quilting group. The women there became her closest friends as they bonded while stitching quilts for charity.

Alice's Catholic faith was the foundation of her life, inspiring her generosity and deep devotion to prayer. The rosary was her most cherished prayer, and one was always close at hand wherever she was.

Time spent in Indiana during her youth sparked Alice's lifelong love of the Indianapolis 500 Motor Race. She listened to—and later watched—the race faithfully each year, always looking forward to the singing of "Back Home Again in Indiana." Her enthusiasm for the event even inspired several of her grandchildren to become fans themselves.

Alice is survived by her sister, Joanne Rathke, her daughter Diana Moya and husband John, son Gregory Monnin, daughter Linda Moriarity and husband Corey, and daughter Laura Nichols and husband Tor, along with 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Monnin, son Steven Monnin and grandsons Tony Monnin and Andy Monnin.
