Obituary

Brandi Renee Ortiz, 54, of Escondido, California, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025, surrounded by family.

She born on December 24, 1971, in Florida, Brandi was the daughter of Donald and Wilma Booher. She spent most of her childhood in Delaware, Ohio, finishing high school at Onate High School and continuing her education at New Mexico State University and the University of New Mexico, where she earned her Master's degree in Elementary Education.

Brandi devoted nearly her entire teaching career to underprivileged, low-income schools, where she dedicated much of her extra time to fostering second-language learners and advancing their reading and writing skills. She also tutored numerous students and preschoolers outside of school, helping them read well above grade level. Brandi was a member and former president of the Escondido Junior Chamber of Commerce, where she helped raise money for various local charities and led several child foster care awareness events and fundraisers. A steadfast animal lover, she was also active in the Amazing Strays Rescue program, fostering pets as they awaited permanent homes.

Brandi was, above all else, a devoted and loving wife and a caring, nurturing mother, as well as a loyal friend and cherished family member. She was known for her loving and feisty spirit. She was a strong advocate for many causes and a prominent voice for cancer awareness, specifically for Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma, which she battled bravely and fiercely for over 12 years. Her sharp wit and colorful personality were infectious to family, friends, and colleagues alike. She will forever be remembered for her strong will, beautiful smile, and courage in navigating life's toughest obstacles.

Brandi is survived by her husband of 30 years, Thomas; her daughter, Aubrey; her brother, John; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews, treasured extended family members, and cherished friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at 10am at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 300 East Boutz, Las Cruces, New Mexico, with a reception to follow.

Brandi was a devout child of God and a believer in Christ. His glory and guidance were unwavering throughout her life's journey. While she will be dearly missed, her loving and feisty spirit remains always.

John 11:25–26:
"Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.'"
