It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Bernardo D. Lopez on March 22, 2025, at La Posada Mesilla Valley Hospice. He was born August 20, 1926 in Las Cruces, NM to Maria and Anastasio Lopez.

Those left to mourn him include son Gene Lopez, daughters Mercy Benavidez, Vicky Apodaca (Gilbert – deceased) and Eloisa Ramirez (Reymundo). Numerous nieces, nephews, grand, great and great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Consuelo Mendoza Lopez. Sons Infant Bernie, Bernardo Lopez Jr., and Jesus Lopez. Siblings Jess Lopez, Elma Gomez, Ernesto Lopez, Ricardo Lopez, Felicitas (Licha) Lopez Sanchez, Mary Lou Lopez Barela, Anastasio Lopez Jr.

Bernardo retired in 1991 from Memorial Medical Center previously known as Memorial General Hospital located on Alameda Blvd., where he began his career as a groundskeeper eventually moving up to Maintenance Chief Supervisor.

He enjoyed being outdoors and looked forward to his annual hunting trips as well as his numerous fishing and camping trips.

A prayer vigil will be held on Wednesday April 2, 2025 at St Genevieve's Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina Street. Visitations will begin at 09:00 A.M. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 10:00 A.M. and the funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Interment and Rite of Committal will conclude at St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Serving as casket bearers include Adrian Benavidez, Richard Erik Chavez, Daniel A. Ramirez, Ken Avalos, David Barela and Gilbert Apodaca. Honorary casket bearers: Gene Lopez, Albert Benavidez, and Paul Benavidez.
