It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we the family of BENJAMIN ACOSTA NEVAREZ, announce his passing on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at the age of 68. He was born April 18, 1956, in Deming, NM to Alicia Acosta and Maximo Nevarez. "Benny," as he was known to family and friends served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps and retired with the Army National Guard. After the Military, Benny was a master plumber and ended his career as a security supervisor at White Sands Missile Range.   Mr. Nevarez was, "jack of all trades."

In 1978 Benny married the love of his life, Cynthia Fay King, and together they had 5 children; son, Christopher Nevarez of Las Cruces; 4 daughters, Alice Nevarez of San Antonio, TX., Amy Nevarez, Angela Nevarez, and Toni Nevarez all from Las Cruces; his loving mother, Alicia Nevarez of Deming; 3 brothers, Max Nevarez Jr., (Liane) of Montrose, CO; Danny Nevarez (Sally), and David Nevarez (Sandra) all from Deming; 2 sisters, Elena Chavarria of Hatch and Christina Smith of Las Cruces. Other survivors include 4 grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Benny was preceded in death by his father, Maximo.

"Our husband, father, brother, and Marine, was called home from battle with a victory that was both bitter and sweet. Some will say he lost his battle to the enemy of cancer, and some will say he won. What we will say is he did not retreat, there was no defeat, he simply stood, walked tall and now sits at God's feet. The sound of his love will forever play on repeat. He was not a man of mere words; his life and legacy were a product of his actions of love. He exhibited strength, integrity, good citizenship, and compassion.  By example, is how he led. He said what he meant, and he meant what he said. They say God gives the toughest battles to His strongest soldiers. This is a proverb that encourages one to face challenges with courage and determination which is how he lived. Although he is gone, he did not leave. He is in our hearts, memories and even on our sleeve. This is not goodbye, so don't boo-hoo, we will simply say "elephant shoe".

At his request cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10 AM Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 300 E. Boutz Road. Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Marines Corps.
