Obituary

Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and dear friend, AUGUSTINE ROBLES MENDOZA, JR, age 87, of Las Cruces, NM, entered eternal life on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Mesilla Valley Hospice, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born February 2, 1939, in Las Cruces, NM, to Augustine G. Mendoza and Margarita R. Mendoza (Robles).  Augustine was a hard worker from a very young age learning the tools of his various trades and applying them to provide for his family.  He served six years in the Army National Guard.  He was a devout member of the Roman Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion in the hospital ministry for over 30 years; this included ministry at Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility for approximately 6 years.

Survivors include daughter, Irma Rosas Marshall, Las Cruces, NM; two sons, John Augustine Mendoza (Veronica), Tucson, AZ, Michael Christopher Mendoza, and son-in-law, Jacob Hernandez (Virginia, deceased); brother, Pat Mendoza, and Robert Grijalva (brother-in-law), all from Las Cruces, NM. Other survivors include eight grandchildren; Amanda Lyn (Chance), Sarah (Carlos), all from Tucson, AZ; Marina (Tony), Zechariah (Samantha), Mando (Darian), Aija, Karisa, all from Las Cruces, NM, and Mariah (Blake); ten great-grandchildren, Jae'Lyn, Jaclyn, Rylee, Aiden, Amelia, Caleb, Zayden, Sienna, Adalee, and Austen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Augustine was preceded in death by his loving wife, Josefina Mendoza on April 17, 2023; his parents; a daughter, Virginia R. Hernandez; his in-laws, Seferino G. and Manuela R. Rosas; three brothers, Eddie, Jimmy and Louie and two sisters, Cecilia Mendoza and Viola Grijalva.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank all those entrusted with Augustine's care and include, but are not limited to, Dr. Monica Moya, Memorial Medical Hospital and Cancer Center, and Mesilla Valley Hospice, both home-hospice and in-patient hospice nurses and Father George Salz - they all touched his life in very important ways.

Visitation for Mr. Mendoza will begin at 6 PM Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 300 E. Boutz Road where the Holy Rosary is scheduled for 7 PM. Family and friends will join to celebrate the Funeral Mass at 10 AM Thursday, April 30, 2026, at St. Genevieve Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina Street with the Reverend Theophine Okafor, Celebrant. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery where he will be laid to rest.

Serving as casket bearers will be John and Michael, Jacob, Mando, Zach, Chance, Carlos, and Tony.  Honorary bearers will be Pat Mendoza, Victor Meza, Gabriel Acosta, and Juan Rosales.
