Antonia Salgado, age 89, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and quiet strength that will continue to echo through the lives of her family and community.

Antonia was born on April 8, 1936, in Ciudad Camargo, Chihuahua, to Antonio Paez and Eustolia Chacon, the 4th of 7 children. She was received into God's Kingdom by Baptism as a child and confessed her personal Faith in Christ Jesus as a young adult.

Born in Mexico, Antonia immigrated to the United States in 1961, embracing a new life with grace and determination. She became a U.S. citizen in 1996 and retired that same year after 25 years of service as a migrant teacher. Her life was devoted to her children and grandchildren, whom she loved deeply and nurtured with unwavering care.

Antonia was a woman of many talents; an accomplished seamstress who made dresses for weddings and clothing for friends and neighbors, a passionate cook whose kitchen was a sanctuary of warmth and tradition, and a gardener whose flowers bloomed under her tender touch. She found joy in learning, shopping, and traveling, especially to visit family and celebrate her grandchildren's weddings.

A devout Catholic, Antonia attended Mass weekly and listened to church services daily. Her faith was lived quietly but powerfully, expressed through acts of love and service rather than words. Her life was her message, and her love was her testimony.

She is remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her home was always open, her table always full, and her heart always ready to welcome one more.

Antonia is survived by her loving family and countless friends whose lives she touched.

She and her loving husband, Leo Salgado, were united in marriage on August 27, 1961. Their marriage was blessed with 3 children: Martin (Norma) Salgado of Las Cruces, NM, Carlos (Victoria) Salgado of San Antonio, TX and Blanca (Albert) Sanchez of Las Cruces, NM. They were also blessed with 7 grandchildren: Carlos & Gerado & Mario (Marina) Salgado, Adriana (Marcus) & Brendon (Marissa) & Lauren & Jaedyn Sanchez, and great-grand fur babies Max & Chico, Bella & Dre & Mac. They celebrated almost 65 years of marriage with thanks to the good Lord.

She is also survived by her sister Leticia Paez Castaneda. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her brothers Miguel, Manuel, & Guadalupe, and her sisters Ofelia and Julieta.

It was a privilege and a blessing to know her. She was an Angel sent from God with a direct line. Her spirit lives in the meals we share, the prayers we whisper, and the love we carry forward.

A visitation for Antonia will be on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, starting at 10am at Our Lord of Mercy Catholic Church, 117 Hartman Street, Hatch, NM. A Prayer Vigil will start at 10:30am followed by a Funeral Mass. Antonia will laid to rest at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Hatch, NM.
