It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we share the passing of our Beloved Wife, Mother, and Grandmother Anita Reyes Galvan. A lifelong resident of Las Cruces Anita, 85, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2023, surrounded by her family. Born in Mesilla, NM on August 8, 1938, Anita lived her life as a home maker where she touched so many lives through her cooking, her sense of humor and her caring spirit. She was a breast cancer survivor and old-fashioned in her ways, making everything possible one way or another. Anita would always light up a room and will be remembered for her love of singing and dancing, as she was the life of the party. She was also famous for her arroz, mashed potatoes, and her delicious avena amongst other greats like her tortillas and her "chimisturri." Known as "Gam" by her grandchildren and "Nita" to many, Anita was beautiful, vibrant, energetic, kind, loving, strong, dependable, faithful, loyal, nurturing and a strong believer in her religious faith.
Anita is preceded in death by her daughter, Frances M. Galvan, her parents Refugio & Francisca Reyes, and numerous other relatives.
She is survived by her husband, Juan Galvan Jr, her daughters & son in-laws Deborah & Larry Sanchez, Yvonne & Jessie Sifuentes-Barron, and her son & daughter in-law Johnny & Maria Galvan. She is also survived by her grandchildren also known as "the chorcha" starting with her partner in crime Vanessa Loya, Lauren Duran, Lawrence Sanchez & wife Larissa, Loren Sanchez, Haylie Galvan, Adrianna Sanchez (Robert Daniels), Jordan Galvan, Jocelyn Rivera, Sophia Castaneda and her great-grandchildren Kiara Sanchez, Raelyn Sanchez, Xander Daniels, Phillip Sanchez, Lawrence Sanchez Jr, KyLynn Duran, and Ezekiel Daniels. Honorary family members Joeal & wife Laura Bustamante and Michelle & husband Joseph Silva.
A visitation for Anita will begin at 10am on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at The Cathedral of Immaculate Heart of Mary, 1240 South Espina St. A prayer vigil will start at 11am with The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass to follow. The Rite of Committal & Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 5140 W. Picacho Ave, where she will be laid to rest.
Serving as Casket Bearers will be John Galvan, Larry Sanchez, Joe "Yosie" Reyes, Refugio "Chira" Reyes, Jessie Sifuentes-Barron, and Lawrence Sanchez.
