ANGEL R. TORRES, JR. 79, Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-grandfather, left this world to be embraced by his Heavenly Father on Sunday, June 9, 2024. While on this earth he met and married his high school sweetheart Stella Marie Diaz on October 16, 1965.

He enlisted in the United States Army in 1965 as a mechanic and served his country in war at Vietnam with the 25th Infantry Division until he was honorably discharged in 1968. He went on to serve in the National Guard for 12 more years. His career ambition led him to the Las Cruces Fire Department, October of 1973 until he retired as Fire Lieutenant in December of 1995 serving a total of 22 years. His hobbies included anything and everything that had to do with cars. He was a loving, generous, kind, humble and forgiving man that will be greatly missed!

Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife of 58 years Stella M. Torres; his 4 daughters, Angelic Barela (Steve), Geniece Telles (Tommy), Cynthia Torres, Veronica Torres (Stephanie); 3 brothers Israel Torres, Marcos Torres (Cynta) and Fernando Castillo (Maureen); 6 sisters, Gloria Contreras, Grace Torres, Genevieve Flores, Olga Banegas, Ruth Jackson, and Sylvia Scoughton (Troy); 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Father Angel S. Torres; Mother, Carmen Rosales Torres, and second mom, Ernestine Barncastle Bashner.

Visitation for Mr. Torres will begin at 6 PM Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 300 E. Boutz Road with the Prayer Vigil at 7 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday, June 28, 2024, at St. Geneieve Catholic Church, 100 S. Espina Street.  At his request cremation will follow and Inurnment of Cremains will take place at a later date.

Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Army Honor Guard, The Marine Corps League El Perro Diablo Detachment and the Bell Ceremony by the Las Cruces Fire Department.

Serving as casket bearers are Troy Scoughton, Jr, Alex Barela, Angel Torres, Jordan Pena, Isaiah Pena, and Nathaniel Pena.
