Maria Amparo Arvizu Munoz passed away on Friday, August 2nd, 2024.

Amparo, as she was fondly called, was born in Mesilla, New Mexico on September 23rd, 1938.

Amparo was one of seven siblings which included, Amelia Arvizu Avalos, Socorro Arvizu Armendariz, Arturo "PA" Arvizu, Isidra "Chila" Arvizu Jeffrey, Ana Maria Arvizu Sanchez and Antonio "Tony" Arvizu.

Amparo was preceded in death by her father, Jesus Maria "Chacho" Arvizu, her mother Evangelina "Nina" Meraz Arvizu, her brother, Arturo "PA" Arvizu, her son, Alejandro "Alex" Trujillo, her daughter, Debbie Rene Trujillo and granddaughter, Jocelyn Trujillo-Pierce.

Amparo is survived by her loving husband, Albert "Jackie" Munoz, her son, Ruben Arvizu and granddaughters, Darci Arvizu Hodges, Angela Arvizu Knox and Victoria Arvizu, her daughter, Lorrie Trujillo Segreto and husband, Robert "Robin" Segreto and grandson, Cameron Segreto and grandchildren Alejandro "Alex" Trujillo Jr, Eveagline "Nina" Trujillo and Aaron Trujillo, great grandchildren, Arianna Hodges, Adam Hodges Jr., Alaya Hodges, Annalise Batonavich, Jadyn Atom Trujillo, Diego Xoaqn Trujillo, Nikko Guy Trujillo, Xayla Alejandra Trujillo, Xianna Luma Trujillo and Nathaniel Trujillo.

Amparo's love of music propelled her to an illustrious, professional singing career.  At an early age, she demonstrated a talent for singing. She participated in all talent shows, school musical programs, neighborhood and social gatherings. She would sing along accompanied by anyone and with whatever instrument. She became very versatile.

In 1984, she saw an ad in the newspaper which was soliciting talent for the New Mexico State Fair. She traveled to Albuquerque to audition. She so impressed the judges, that she was hired to sing at the New Mexico State Fair that year. Likewise, at her performance, she impressed the local radio station Program Directors, who were there and came forth to greet her and asked for her recorded material so that they could include it in their programming format.

In June of 1985, Amparo realized her first recording in Monterey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Soon thereafter, she signed her first record contract with A F G Sigma Records founded by Los Temerarios there in Monterey. Currently, she has agreements with Discos Palmas International in the United States and with Discos Ciudad in Mexico. Amparo became a member of the New Mexico Hispano Music Association where she received the Female Vocalist of the Year award.

Amparo's recordings have been aired and she has performed on many stages accompanied by Mariachi, Conjunto Norteno and a variation of many Trio Musicians in both countries of Mexico and the United States. All her recordings are available on the net and on your favorite musical platform under the name of AMPARO ARVIZU.

Visitation for Amparo will begin at 6:00 pm and the Rosary will follow at 7:00 pm on Friday August 16, 2024 and the funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 17, 2024 both at the Cathedral of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 1240 South Espina Street, Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Serving as casket bearers: Ruben Arvizu, Antonio Arvizu, Alan Jeffrey, Roque Armendariz, Manuel Puentes, and Daniel Montoya.

Cremation will take place and a private inurnment of cremains will be held at a later date.
