Alexander Silva Carreras, known affectionately as "Hondo" or "Grumpy," passed away on August 07, 2024, at the age of 73 in Las Cruces, NM. Born on September 6, 1950, in Hatch, NM, Alexander dedicated 43 years of his life as a truck driver (AKA Cisco).
Alexander was a devoted husband to Romelia Carreras for 53 years and a loving father to his children Jessica, Alex Jr., Adam, Juan, and Pedro. His joy was multiplied with his 14 grandchildren—Jasmine, Sabrina, Ambrosia, Yesenia, Aaron, Xela, Cecilia, Karma, Adeline, Victor, Miracle, and Juan Jr—and two great-grandchildren, Dimitri and Scarlette. He is also survived by his sisters Vicenta Dominguez, Aurora Clark, Belen Limon, Frances Chavez, and Diana Serna. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Manuela Carreras, and his grandsons, Alexander and Steven Ray, along with many brothers and sisters.
Alexander's life was marked by a quiet and peaceful demeanor, punctuated with a brilliant sense of humor, particularly his cherished "Dad" jokes. His passions included classic rock music, vintage cars, and enjoying classic western shows like "Gun Smoke".
As a devoted Catholic, he was a long-time member of the Santa Rosa De Lima Church. His faith played a central role in his life, offering him both comfort and community. He proudly served as an usher. He was Knighted by the Knights of Columbus on March 10, 2018.
A visitation for Alexander will be held at 9:30am on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church, 5035 Holsome Road. A prayer vigil will begin at 10am with a Funeral Mass to follow. Alexander will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 5140 West Picacho Avenue.
Alejandro's memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories shared by his loving family and all who knew him.
