Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Agustin Quintana Chaparro, who departed this life on September 12, 2025, at the age of 95 with his family by his side.Born on a ranch near Escalon, Chihuahua, Mexico, on April 9, 1930, to Susana and Enrique Chaparro, Agustin helped his father provide for his mother and siblings by herding cattle at a very young age.                    Agustin lived a life marked by dedication, craftsmanship, hard work and quiet strength. He built his legacy as a cementero, becoming an owner of Lopez and Chaparro LLC, a concrete company. He shaped not only structures but the lives of those around him with integrity, honesty, respect and skill as the best in the concrete business.Agustin was a devoted husband to Socorro Chaparro, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. He was a proud father to daughters Susana Chaparro and Norma Chaparro, and a cherished grandfather to Michael Justin Benavidez. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and his presence will be deeply missed.Agustin had a very great, but personal faith, in "Chuyito" as he fondly called Jesus Christ.  It was through this profound faith that he overcame huge obstacles in his life, including surmounting poverty and  a lack of education; hurdling difficulties with hope, faith and optimism.  He was a humble and gentle man, cheerful and outgoing but a "Gentleman's Gentleman", treating everyone he met with great respect.  He would joyfully laugh at his own jokes, had a wonderful sense of humor and a very playful nature.  His remarkable qualities as a human being, being both strict but also driven and ambitious; he cheered others on saying, "Héchele ganas a todo lo que haga".  He touched many lives with his wisdom and insight, helping others get through their own personal difficulties. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and his presence will be profoundly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Monica Barajas, Asuncion Holguin, Enrique Chaparro, and Jose Chaparro. Their memories live on in the stories and traditions he carried forward.  Agustin's family would like to thank Dr. Hector Lerma, Mesilla Valley Hospice and Father George for providing him with comfort and care.A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 03:00 P.M. on Thursday October 2, 2025 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Mary, located at 1240 S. Espina Street. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Agustin are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of a life well lived.Agustin's legacy endures in the foundations he laid—both in cemento and in spirit.Service arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels of Las Cruces and Sunset Crematory, 527-2222.
