Biography

JAY VERNON REEVES, 57, lifelong resident of Las Cruces entered eternal life Tuesday, February 7, 2012 as a result of a tragic automobile accident. He was born January 24, 1955 in Silver City, NM to J.V. and Ethel Crumbley Reeves. Jay retired from the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department as a Sergeant and was currently working as a transport officer.

Those left to mourn his passing include his mother, Ethel Reeves of Buckhorn, NM; four children, Stacy Reeves of El Paso, TX, Jessica Reeves-Pelham of Olathe, CO, Melody Reeves and Jared Reeves both of Las Cruces; a sister, Linda Brown and husband Mike also of Las Cruces; two brothers, Douglas Reeves and wife Gail, and William Travis Reeves both of Cliff, NM. Other survivors include two grandchildren, Khloe and Hayden Pelham; nieces, Shery Price, Kelly Reeves McDaniel, Erica Reeves, and Jacqueta Reeves; nephews, Darrell Davis, Michael Davis and Kenny Reeves; fourteen great nieces and nephews and two great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation for Jay will be held Saturday, February 11, 2012 from 11 AM to 12 PM in Baca’s Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road. The Funeral Service will be held the same afternoon at 2 PM in the First Baptist Church, 106 S. Miranda with Dr. Maurice Hollingsworth and Pastor Max Perkins officiating. A Graveside Service will be held Monday, February 13, 2012 at 1 PM in the Gila-Mesa Cemetery in Gila, NM.

Serving as casket bearers will be Mike Brown, David Price, Jeff Crumbley, Randy Blood, James Moran, Colten Davis and Cordell Davis. Honorary bearer will be Bill Liverman.

Jay was a real cowboy who loved his horses and team roping. He was a wonderful father, son, brother and the best friend anyone could ask for. Jay will be missed by all.
